With Tuck #109 reportedly around the corner, maybe it's time to start the pre-game thingy with some idle speculations...

So, will it be first-person or third-person? "Tuckism" or "Pink Floyd Song"? Any bets?

Personally, I'm going with third-person for now. Although Tuck is conscious, he's still stuck in the hospital room, while there's a LOT of stuff happening outside.

And, on that note... anybody trying to guess which Pink Floyd song chapter #109 will be named after (if I'm right, that is)?

Don't call me Shirley. You will surely make me surly.

Pure speculation, and not something I consider *likely*, but it sort of "feels" like a suicide attempt by Tuck is a distinct possibility.

Well, I'm personally guessing that it's going back to first person.

But, to play the game anyway:

If we're seeing more of the actions against the attackers (and most of the rest of the school, for that matter): Us and Them; or, since Tuck isn't involved, Wish You Were Here

We're hopefully past the one that I was worried about a chapter or two ago: Brain Damage

If we're feeling optomistic, A Great Day For Freedom

Sucicide attempt (which I consider extremely unlikely at this point, but who knows?): Don't Leave Me Now

Floyd is filled with titles that could fit, most (but not all) of them rather worrisome when you think about them.

On Brooke's guess at a suicide attempt: A mark of a good writer is when they let you know the character so well that you can predict with some certainty what they will do next in most situations. Tuck is one of the only characters I've ever seen which goes beyond that; where we know someone so well we can't guess with any certainty what Tuck will do next. Tuck is just too complex, too real, to be sure which way Tuck will jump. Normally the reason we can't guess is because the character isn't well developed; to get to that point the long way is truly amazing.

Well, the suicide attempt is unlikely. But it "feels" like the sort of curve Ellen could justify throwing at us all too easily.

Sluggo, 3/31 22:50:

There is always the chance that Travis gets drunk and goes after anyone the police haven't picked up.

He'd be more danger to himself than to the perps in that case. Just what we don't need: Travis dies in a car accident (or because he's out there with his fists and the fifth perp has a gun or a knife), and suddenly we have a whole new set of things for Val to think about. But it won't happen in 109, unless Travis learns a whole lot in an awful hurry.

(I'm not sure quite which way to lean on that scenario. On the one hand, I've said before that it'd be something of a copout for Ellen to "solve" the Val-Travis-Debbie not-quite-triangle by killing one of them off before our protagonist decides what to do about the situation. On the other, it'd be an interesting way to refocus the story and it'd answer the complaint that Travis, boy scout and all that, comes off as too saccharine a love interest to make a final pairing with Val a satisfactory ending.)

Assuming that Lisa was telling the truth about Travis having done an enormous favor for her, her can't be too much of a boy scout. And his being "gay" is a factor there also.

The favor (if it existed) wasn't necessarily illegal or sanctionable, just embarrassing to Lisa. And if Travis were to ride off into the sunset with Val at the end, it's probable that by then neither he nor Val would consider him gay for doing so.

Gee...if we're going to speculate, how about Ellen spinning up a scenario where Travis was unwittingly the fifth perp. And Val/Tuck has to figure a way to get Travis off without exposing their relationship publicly.

Some day I'll get around to working out how to write a script that'll tell me when the new episode arrives and copy it my system Smile
