donate? [message #4829] |

Dear Erin,
I was more than happy to donate to Ellen at the beginning of last month, but due to Ellen's behaviour and calling my donation that month a "splooge stain" on her door - I cannot in right good conscious contribute. I am not saying this out of hate or spite. I am posting this out of concern. If Ellen truly needs help in staying afloat, I would suggest she take a look at her behaviour to her fan base in replying towards them and see just what kind of person she is and what kind of image she projects. If Ellen were to change her attitude towards her Tuck fans and perhaps actually respond nicely and thoughtfully and not be crass, crude, insulting or otherwise, she might actually be surprised that her fans might actually find change to donate where none was before.
Ellen does not need to sink to anything low or beneath her other than being just nice to others. Realize that people that read her story are not like she is inside and that she may have to modify her behaviour around others. It may be a little bit of work, but being nice actually has the benefits of establishing author fan rapport in getting help and allows the readers to feel good about where the author takes them to in her work. I am saying this so everyone may understand exactly what has been going on. Ellen may be subconsciously pushing her donaters away with how her current behaviour is. It can be changed if she so desires to and she has time to correct it. I am sure with the proper amnenities that she can get her donations back. I do believe though it is up to her whether she would like to do so or not.
As for myself, I might be enticed back to donate. I am not demanding anything at all for it. If the proper words were to be said it can happen. I think, perhaps, the proper words to all her fans all the time would not even be difficult at all if this were the norm. I shall await to see if something good comes this way. There is always hope!

If you don't want to donate, don't donate, but don't mistake Ellen's really odd sense of humor for something else, either. Asking for donations isn't easy, I have trouble doing it too and for Ellen, I suspect it is even harder. Can't expect her to change, I'm serious, I really don't think you can reasonably hope for much change. Just try to understand where she's coming from and if you can and are willing, send a few bucks. I donate about every two months though I haven't lately because of BC expenses.
