No, we knew you were busy.

Actually, you delivered *before* promised -- you had said next chapter would come sometime in June. I hope this means things are looking up for you.

Don't call me Shirley. You will surely make me surly.

He's also outed himself as Valerie to Anne-Marie. And he and Jill seem to have become an item, though it's still pretty early to make guesses on whether or not it'll last.

New friends is good. Though I hope that "they can't afford my rates" crack doesn't come back to haunt him.

If he can get a few more bits of luck like this, he may actually hit critical mass, and have the usual sniping at him met with either "so what?" or yawns.

First off, hiya. I've been reading the story for a while now- about eight months- and finally decided to join the discussion. Anyways, on to what I'm seeing:

There seems to be a rather interesting turn in Tuck's attitude in this chapter.

-He completely voluntarily outs himself to Anne Marie.

Up to this point, he's done his best to never let anybody know he is Valerie. Jack, Julia, Amy, everybody who knows about Valerie outside the Pack except for Susan has been an accident. That he should choose to show Valerie to Anne Marie is a development I wasn't expecting, and I wonder how this will change his interaction with the other 'freshthings' with the Pack as well.

-While he questions the girls in his class about why they think he is gay, he never actually says in the context of the story that he isn't.

Yet another unexpected change. Isn't this the same Tuck who has been reluctant to openly join GLEE because of how his sexuality is perceived? Even if it becomes open that he is doing something with Jill, he even got the girls to admit that nothing he could do would convince them he wasn't. Wouldn't the old Tuck have continued fighting, or something?

Unless I've been missing major character development in the last few chapters, these events show a new direction for Tuck, almost as though he is beginning to mold the personalities he has as Eugene and as Valerie into one. His behavior with Jill in the bedroom hints at this as well- admitting to enjoying an obviously feminine experience in the context of his masculine role in that situation makes me think he could be finding at least a little balance in his life.

I'm interested to see how this situation plays out. Have I missed anything to this point that kinda led to these changes?

Be happy, be kind, and love yourself for who you are, not who others think you are.

With Tuck's major secret revealed to the parental units, Tuck has less reason to keep the two personalities separate. And yet, Valerie is enough different from Eugene that Anne-Marie is amazed.

Some really good scenes here, especially the one at Anne-Marie's. I think I laughed out loud more often during this installment than in the past few dozen.

Providing Tuck with a week without a crisis over the past two chapters certainly seemed like a welcome development (or lack thereof).

If there are major future developments arising out of this chapter, I think Ellen has concealed them well. But I do wonder if Anne-Marie had something in mind -- I'm not sure what -- in trying to connect Tuck's Val with Valerie F.

Not really. His comebacks when accused have generally been verbal parries rather than denials, going all the way back to last year in the locker room for gym class -- suggesting, for example, that the male making the accusation is propositioning him -- at a time when he was dating Debbie. This year, before the attack, he was even less inclined to deny it, whichever direction it came from: the jocks and their dates on the one side, and the frosh girls who were convinced that he was Kelly's lesbian lover on the other.

It seems clear that Tuck would rather leave his sexuality publicly undefined (not least, perhaps, because of his own confusion on the matter). Combining what he told Jennie and Nicole in this chapter and what he told Kelly last time, the problem is that there's nothing he can do, including having sex with girls, that will stop the rumors, but admitting to them could make his situation even more dangerous.

Here, though, he did turn the question back on Jennie, at least attempting to show that she could be accused as arbitrarily as he was. Also, it's notable that Tuck could have used "she" rather than "they" to describe his current relationship while keeping Jill anonymous, and chose not to.

I have to think that most of Anne Marie's awe at Tuck, is that it worked. That her mom didn't even bat an eye at the fact that Valerie was a girl. It wasn't that "Valerie" suddenly appeared. This is the first time in a while where Tuck has been dressed up, not just being Valerie. Even though Tuck was dressed, he seemed to still be Tuck.

Although I have to admit that it seemed like it was Valerie in class on Saturday. I don't think that Tuck would have been comfortable discussing even the slightest possibilities of being gay with other students that he didn't have some sort of "Mutually Assured Destruction" with.

Hi,

I must have missed something. I know Tuck has got to catch up with the classes he missed. However, Saturday morning was his scheduled meeting with Sheila. In Tuck 127 there was still mention of the appointment but now in 128 it didn't happen.

In 126 Tuck mentioned about having to get up earlier than usual, so it was like he still expected it to happen early Saturday.

Did I miss the reference somewhere delaying the appointment or missing a week?

Hugs

Karen

It was kind of oblique, since the original question's missing, but the schedule change was in 127:

Quote:

*** 20:46 3 Nov
"Sunday morning, twelve-thirty," I said. "Why?" "Pam had this idea..."
*** 20:51 3 Nov
"Son of a BITCH..." It scared me somewhat to realize that I could fit into one of Pam's church dresses, and look half decent in it.[..]
*** 20:53 3 Nov
[...]"It does look good," Sabrina judged, glaring at me[...]"Yeah," Jill agreed, "I mean, it's therapy, right? Not a date or anything." "Val said she was gonna be there, I mean," Sabrina looked at me, "as a girl, for the first time..."

I note that Tuck has a funny idea of morning. Smile Consistent with hacker geek attitudes about daylight, though.

Is the lonely feeling that T-Val had (wanting to be held) a mild
version of the depression that led to the lightning rod episode.
The new pills do seem to be working though. What happened to the
Zoloft? Was it suspended while he taking Valium or dropped for
the new med?
