He's in male puberty! Ask any mother of a teenaged male what they eat like, if you don't remember...

That was a social role, not a "Mike's fat" thing.
Wikipedia sayeth: |
Kahuna is a Hawaiian word, defined in the Pukui & Elbert Dictionary as "Priest, sorcerer, magician, wizard, minister, expert in any profession."

Looks like Amy didn't check (via forward time travel) the definition before she came up with the word; she meant "chief, leader".

If you mean "defined waist" like Tuck is developing, no; Mike's the usual ectomorphic (look it up!) asian build, though fed nearly since birth on a typical American diet, and so he's quite large compared to his genetic ancestors.
Alas (Mike thinks) he's not very muscular, or muscular looking. But he's fairly fit, and trim. Otherwise, aerobics with Kathy would be severe torture, not merely "challenging".
(your author, for instance, would die of respiratory insufficiency before the class ended, if she didn't give herself heatstroke first)
