Many (most?) of the references to Mike's car Stupid remark on how marginal and, ah, unoptimized his car Stupid is. The thought occurred to me that Mike's smart and the Tucker family seems to have a large assortment of tools. I'm wondering why he doesn't find a Chilton manual for it and get it running a little better?

While Da Boyz aren't into the "car thing," I'd think that making it a bit more reliable and probably a bit more economical on fuel would be attractive.

Well, in the main saga Mike just didn't have the time and money to do much about it. I think he regards Stupid as a "starter car," intending to trade up sometime.

In the old Tuck Season, though...<SPOILER DELETED>... and therefore something similar might yet happen in the revised Seasons. Or not.

Don't call me Shirley. You will surely make me surly.

Okay. I wasn't sure what the parameters were on Mike's finances and available time.

A better constraint is Mike and Da Boyz all alone with no Tuck for distractions and nothing better to do than work on "Stupid" and we already know they like to hack around...

I'm really hoping we see a return of <censored> from the rough draft.

Me, I think that Mike has been working on Stupid, but not telling Tuck, Right now, Tuck has a lot to deal with without helping with the car, besides, Tuck is better with computers.

Tuck has stated that if it's not an electrical problem, it's outside his field.

Also, as far as dieing mechanical things goes, sometimes even replacing parts isn't going to be enough and replacing the whole engine just wouldn't be worth it.

i just think about Heinlein's quotes about how cars are hideously complicated devices that really shouldn't work. That it's only though over engineering and adding additional systems to keep it from eating itself that make it a miracle that it runs at all. (kinda like Windows)
