Tuck saw Travis coming through the door. And saw his dad starting to draw. He tried to yell but only managed a strangled gasp.

"Dad! No! He's.. friend."

And then he collapsed on the bed.

Sheila heard Eugene and took another look at the boy in the door. And made a guess.

"You must be Travis."

Bill froze and then relaxed a bit. Tuck didn't seem to consider the jock a threat. But he thought he knew all of Tuck's friends. Wait a minute. The jock had said _Val_, not Tuck...

Travis had stopped, wondering what on earth was going on.

"Uh, yes ma'am. Travis Jensen."

Sheila turned to Tuck. He seemed to be conscious.

"Can I tell your father?"

Tuck winced, but nodded.

"Mr. Tucker? Travis is ..." she paused and went with instinct, "Valerie's boyfriend."

Bill took his hand off the gun and sat down. Then he looked at Tuck.

"So that's why you were sure. And what you were going to tell us."

Tuck slowly signed <Yes. He doesn't know about my body.>

Bill looked upset.

Tuck signed <He thinks I _used to be_ a guy>

Bill looked unhappy. "You need to ..."

"What happened to Valerie?" Travis interrupted.

Bill was spared trying to come up with an answer by Mike's arrival.

"Hi, Mr. Tucker. How's... Travis?!" Mike was startled to see Val's boyfriend there. And no obvious signs of mayhem.

Travis looked pleadingly at Mike. "Would someone _please_ tell me what's going on?"

Everyone just looked at him for a minute. Then they all looked at Tuck.

Tuck shrank a bit then looked at Mike and signed. <Ok. Tell. Short version now. More later>

Mike glanced at Bill Tucker and got a questioning look.

Mike replied, "Travis is ok, Mr. Tucker. I checked him out and the Pack did as well. He may not be happy after he hears everything, but he's _not_ gonna do anything to hurt Tuck."

Travis was looking confused. "Who is Tuck?"

Sheila put a hand on Travis's shoulder. "This is a bit complicated, I think you need to sit down."

Travis sat on a chair by the bed.

Mike and Tuck exchanged a few comments in sign. the Mike started in.

"Ok, you know that Tu-. That _Valerie_ wasn't born female, right?"

"Yes, but..."

"When he was born they _thought_ he was a boy. He wasn't. It gets kinda complicated. the doctors can't do a lot and he still needs to figure out what he _wants_ them to do."

Travis jumped in "Why do you keep saying he?"

Bill answered, "Because Valerie is my _son_, Eugene."

As Travis tried to digest this, Mike went on "But everyone but his mom calls him Tuck."

"I don't understand. You saw us together. You called her Valerie. And Lisa said Val _used_ to be a guy...."

Mike sighed. "It's way too complicated to go into right now. It took Tuck's mom a couple of hours to explain it to us."

Travis look stunned. "How could it take..."

"Trust me. Tuck's biology is _way_ beyond weird. But the short version is he's been raised as a guy, and was living as one until last Halloween. Then he got turned into Valerie for a costume contest. And then it kept happening because his girlfriend liked him that way. And then he started liking it."

Bill broke in again, "And he managed to hide this from his mother, brother and me until a couple weeks ago."

Mike added "That's what got him grounded."

Travis looked at Val. She signed something. Mike translated, "He says he's sorry he didn't tell you."

"Why?" Travis looked upset.

Mike didn't bother looking at Tuck. "Because he was afraid he'd lose you."

Travis slumped in the chair. And didn't say anything. Tuck seemed to shrink into himself. Mike was about to say something else but Sheila caught his eye and held up a hand.

Travis finally looked up at Val. "So you've been living as a guy?"

Tuck looked like he wanted to cry or something but he managed to nod.

"And you're still a guy down ..."

Tuck nodded again looking even more like he wished the ground would swallow him.

Travis shook his head. "I knew there was stuff you weren't telling me. And they're right, You should have."

He paused for a while and Tuck couldn't look at him.

"No, I'm not going to break up with you. But I need you to quit trying to hide stuff from me. I'm not happy about this stuff. Not at all. We've got a lot to talk about. But you don't need that on top of whatever's wrong with you right now."

Tuck managed to look relieved and ashamed at the same time.

Bill was impressed in spite of himself. If the boy could deal with this that well, Tucker had done a lot better than he'd have expected.

Mike heaved a sigh of relief. He wasn't going to have to try to put Tuck back together again.

Travis slid the chair closer to the bed and slowly reached a hand out. And Tuck took it.

After a few minutes, Sheila spoke up. "I'll be going now. And Tuck? If you and Travis need help working things out, you might try bringing him with you to one of our sessions."

"Sessions?" asked Travis

"Sheila's Tuck's therapist," Bill informed him.

Travis could feel Val wince.

"It's ok. You're not the only person I know in therapy."

Tuck relaxed. Travis still liked him. He wasn't looking forward to telling him everything, but maybe he'd be able to get through it after all.

Sheila left. Mike and Bill looked at each other and at Travis and Tuck. Mike shrugged.

Travis looked up again. "What happened to Val? Why is she here?"

Mike looked at Bill. "He deserves to know. And I can't see him blabbing."

Bill thought for a moment. "Ok. I take it you didn't know Tuck was attending school as Tuck rather than Valerie."

"No." Travis started to say something then looked at Val with a "we'll talk about this later" look.

Bill continued, "Between being a geek, looking the way he does and being so small, he's always been a target for the bullies. And lately it's gotten worse."

Travis looked like he wanted to object to calling Val a geek, but didn't.

Bill summarized, "We don't know all the details, but several of them ambushed him and beat him severely. He had an bad asthma attack and complications from the beating. that landed him here."

Travis spoke in a cold tone. "Someone _did_ this to her?!"

Mike said "The police have arrested a bunch of people. They aren't getting away with it."

Travis asked, "But what if they don't get all of them? What about when she.. _he_," Travis corrected himself, "has to go back to school?"

Mike said, "We haven't figured that out yet. The rest of us are are making sure we aren't ever alone at school or going to or from it."

It's going to be a while until part three (and the rest of part 1 was posted yesterday in the original "Meet the Tuckers" thread).

Meanwhile, a question. Anybody have a cite for what grade Travis is in as of Oct 1997? I've spent an hour searching so far without a lot of luck.

Look in chapter 78 I think it is, When Tuck tells Shiela about Travis. He says Travis is going to be a Senior (12th grade) that year.

On another subject, you might want to read up on some other their later sex scenes and the way he describes them to the girls at the last slumber party at Sabrinas. From their position and the way Tuck describes himself getting off, I would find it hard to believe that Travis doesn't know that Tuck still has a penis.

Thanks, turned out to be #77. But I now have it.

As others have noted in fairly recent discussions, Travis knows, but keeps forgetting. There are two *different* times when Tuck and Travis were discussing Tuck's problems. And while we aren't given the full convesation, it seems even less likely that it didn't come up.

And yet *after* those two conversations we have Travis asking Val about kids...

Tuck has been trying hard to avoid "flaunting" his genitals in Travis's face. For example, you'll note that he's had a skirt on or panties only moved out of the way in the same scenes you referred to. (for example in Tuck 78 at 23:19 16 Aug)

Meanwhile, Travis has been trying just as hard (if not harder) to forget that Val is a guy with some odd medical problems.

And hey, it's *way* easy to have two sets of facts that if put together will tell you something but to not think of putting them together. I've embarassed myself that way several times. One of the more memorable ones was at about Travis's age.

I'm afraid I fall in the group of people who think Travis has to know more about what's going on than you show; espically after what little feedback we get about Mike's talk with Travis after Tuck is grounded. YMMV, of course.

I don't think the question about kids really enters into it. Travis knows Valerie is somewhere inbetween; but probably doesn't have a clear grasp of what that actually means. Make that definitly; not even Tuck & family are clear on what it means yet.

There's "knowing" and there's "admitting to yourself you know".

Besides, I couldn't come up with decent re-write after that bit about Mike got pointed out. So I decided to go with what I had, even if it's a bit farther "off" than I originally thought.

Not that you need more evidence, but it was established somewhat earlier that Travis would be a senior in the upcoming year:

20:08 23 May

Travis and Bobby, along with Beth and Kathy, were going to Red Bluff’s prom...
followed by...
00:26 26 Jul

"But you always had girls around, that I remember," I said. "Not really- you only saw me a couple of times," [Travis] said, "when I wasn’t with you." "I saw you going to a dance with one," I reminded him. "Remember, when you ran into all of us, at the end of school, and you were with Bobby and those two girls who were obviously dates?" "That was just for junior prom," he said, like that somehow 'excused' him. "Sounds like a date to me," I mentioned. "My mom set that up."

Shocked i so want to see part three. possible starting points...

"Val," Travis said, "I'm disappointed that you didn't trust me more."

"Travis," Bill said, "it would have been perhaps even worse for Tuck to go to school as Val and be outed as a 'boy."

"Travis," Mike said, "Val is sick now and won't be up to talking much. I or someone who speaks ASL needs to interpret for her. Also no matter what she can only stand so much 'talking' because she needs her rest."
