For some reason, most scenes with Kelly just crack me up. She's so serious and so naive, so wise-beyond-her-years and so full of potential mischief barely held in check; so brim full of contradiction, she runs over with truth. Ellen has succeeded in drawing a minor character vividly enough that I feel I could look her up in the phone book. Smile

...I wanted to get on with the 'real' game. "Okay, then. You carpets will play the 'A' schedule days and the leeches on the 'B' sked days." "Who you callin' a leech?" Jill grinned. "Onlay you, baby-dahl," Kim drawled, and they laughed together.
OK, the bloodsucking vampires like Jill's character logically qualify as "leeches". But I don't understand "carpets" at all. Can someone explain?

Thanks...

The question there is whether Kelly's really the minor character she seemed.

I doubt if it's accidental that on this very day, we get Kelly explaining that her attraction to females isn't an overtly sexual thing, and Tuck observes in conversation that he's aware that his physical attraction to Travis doesn't necessarily extend to males in general.

Combined with Kelly's nearly psychic ability to locate and join Tuck, I couldn't help thinking at the time that Ellen set this up as an ideal future relationship for the two of them.

The way the story's moved since then, I'm not as convinced as I was of its importance, but I think it'll come up sooner or later.

Are they werewolves in that scenario? Can't remember.

... 'cause apparently a wet dog smells like an old carpet? I only hear this, you understand, being a lifelong cat-person...

RThe other characters are werewolves. Werewolves are noted for being really shaggy/furry. Like a carpet..

[26 August]
... Matt shows off his role-playing ability ...

I'm a little surprised that Matt hasn't moved into the mainstream of the story so far; that certainly seemed a more promising introduction than any of the other newcomers except Kelly.

I'm not, really. It's a very impressive sequence on it's own terms, but what can you really do other than a few more role-playing sequences? It would be annoying on a regular character.
It is a very impressive (and funny) scene, though.

I wasn't really looking for an encore, exactly -- it just seemed that he'd made a positive impression on the group to the point where they might want to include him in more than just the lunchtime gaming sessions. As Book's Little, he has less of a direct connection to Da Boyz than James, Paul or Bob, but he's certainly the only one of the four who inspires confidence. (No minor feat in itself for a freshman in his third week of school, interacting with kids two years older.)

Not that they know how he'd feel about the kind of subversive pranking Da Boyz would be dealing in if things hadn't gotten serious, let alone the kind of activity they'll be finding themselves undertaking after Tuck gets assaulted. But I thought he'd be hanging out with them more. (Actually, letting him in on what was going on with Dan's "gift" to Ashlee would have been an interesting way to gauge his reactions without undue risk.)

It's a two-way street, of course. Matt's not allergic to geeks, or he wouldn't be in the game, but we don't know that Tuck, Mike et al. are the kind of people he'd want to affiliate with on a regular basis, given the choice.

Weird dreams; a computer payload is delivered; lots of Phone Calls.

I love how Ellen handles the day's sitting here: no direct mention; just the apology to Mom. Very nicely done.

Laptop arrives; school & sitting; an unexpected encounter at a concert.

Tuck's parents should have known Tuck was serious about somebody, if Tuck was willing to go on a date rather than run home for the laptop.

Aug 16 Tuck 'rescues' Debbie in the mall. Probably this incident sets up part of the beating he recieves in October.

Read the story! Rolling Eyes Seriously we know how they are working it. Da Boyzen are spying on the likely suspects. The police are catching the suspects. There will be a trial. There will probably be a civil trial.

What I mean is whether or not Bill will sanction a vendetta against the parties.

Rolling Eyes I really don't think so. Not at least until he is sure the police are through with them. If they go to jail he'll keep tabs on them to see that they don't get any ideas about further revenge. But as the story currently stands no, he will not risk some lawyer being able to say that there is an escalating ring of vengeance going on.
