Anyone want to speculate about Ellen including Tina on the list of birthdate candidates she posted on the Tuckerspawn thread? Not only hasn't she been mentioned since March; she hasn't even had a speaking part in the story as yet.

I could speculate, but it might be premature...

She has, however, had a chanted-at part.

Her birthday is something of an interesting question, if, as seems likely, she's a mercenary little thing. We know that Tuck dated her, and that they broke up at a Homecoming dance. Since we've seen another homecoming dance, we can place that one with some assurance in early to mid-October.

Mike dated Tina from at least 18 January to 24 February. If her birthday happened to fall in any time period when she was dating Mike or Tuck. then the lack of mention of it becomes, to some degree, an indicator of the accuracy of Tuck's reporting, and we might reasonably guess that he's failed to mention other birthdays.

None of which has anything to do with Future Tuck, of course. It's all History of the Tuckerverse, instead. But it's at least possible that it's interesting to know the answer for that reason.

Humm... I didn't remember that the breakup had been at Homecoming, but I went back to read the relevant passage, you're right. Now, this poses another question... WHEN exactly was this?

The story opens in Tuck & Gang's sophomore year, late 1996. He's already "going steady" with Debbie a few days before Halloween -- that is, less than a month after Homecoming.

This gives us two possible scenarios:

1: Tuck was dating Tina in 1996. They break up in Homecoming, but he begins dating Debbie right after that. It's possible that Debbie had already Tuck in his sights before, and was just waiting for an opening. That might explain also why she knew so much of the gossip surrounding the breakup (cf. 18 Jan entries). This means that he dated Ellen sometime before Tina. The main problem with this scenario is that it's a bit soon after the breakup for Mike to "forgive and forget" and start dating Tina.

2: Tuck dated Tina in 1995, more than a full year before the story begins, and they broke at Homecoming when they were still freshmen. This leaves room for Tuck recovering from the breakup and also for Mike to give a new chance to Tina. There's more than enough wiggle room there too to fit the few times Tuck dated Ellen, and also for a less-rushed beginning to Tuck & Debbie's relationship -- although the exact times shouldn't be too different (by Halloween, Tuck apparently still didn't know that Lisa was Debbie's best friend, meaning that they weren't dating very long), at least Tuck wasn't on the rebound.

Either scenario fits with Tuck having worked for Debbie a few months before.

I would say that Tuck almost had to have taken Tina to his Freshthing Homecoming dance. I think that otherwise there isn't enough time to have fit in any dates with Ellen.
