Time to do some serious polling of what people think.

I'll be putting up a series of questions, as separate topics; I'd like discussion and opinions. I'll be selecting and choosing what I think is the best-possible - which may have little to do with best-conceivable - and using those for the print version.

Please keep the discussion IN the topic ON the topic; start a new topic if you want to address something else, mmmkay?

In Tucknotes for 1-22-06 Ellen asked:

Have any of you bought anything direct from one of the POD publishers out there? Any review or comment upon of the quality of the POD work (as differentiated from the authorial or editorial work) would also be helpful. When I do this, I'd really like to have a $20 book that doesn't fall apart in two weeks...

I've purchased books from and liked their products. The books have all been in the paperback 6x9 format and the quality is what you'd expect from a major publishing house doing a 10,000+ print run even though they only printed the one copy before it was shipped to me. The paper is high quality, the use good inks, the text wasn't smudged in any way and the bindings are solid and look like they will stand up to hundres of reads.

The first book I purchased from was Kelly Girl and that was about 10 months ago. So far it and the other books have held up just fine.
